I think I'll wait out here, Lightbeam says. That door looks like a tight squeeze. And I can call you -- or you can call me -- if need be. He settles down near the door.

You and the Doctor enter the tavern. It is dimly lit and has a not unpleasant smell of wood smoke and fruit. About a dozen people are about, most of them men, drinking and chatting. A fairly young man is behind the bar, pulling a mug of some kind of brew for a customer. He glances over his shoulder as you come through the door -- "be right with you."

"They seem friendly enough," the Doctor remarks.

"Mm. It's a pub, though, Doctor. Things can go pear-shaped quickly."

"True enough," the Doctor agrees.

You find a space at the bar, and while several of the patrons give you both slightly odd looks -- your clothes are a bit out of place compared to the rest, although these people appear as human as you and the Doctor do -- no one really objects to your being there.

Soon the barkeep turns his attention to you. "Afternoon, folks," he says. "Must be new in town, eh? What can I get for you?"

"What have you got on tap?" A pub, after all, was still a pub, whatever the names.

"Got ale, and a nice peach cider, just came in."

"The cider sounds good." It sounded normal enough.

The barkeep grins and pulls two wooden tankards full, setting them in front of yourself and the Doctor. "So, new in town. What have you come for?"

"Just a little sightseeing, really," the Doctor remarks, pulling his tankard toward him and taking a sniff.

"Just wait until dark, there'll be something to see then, right enough," the barkeep says. "Hope you're fast on your feet, or good with weapons, though. The dragon's like to carry anyone off, if it gets its claws on them."

"Well, that's what dragons do, innit? Not that I've seen one up close." Not exactly.

"Sure and enough this one does. Caused a lot of damage over the past few months, a few people killed too. So far no one's been able to really hurt it, far as we can tell, and it's not like we don't have a good archer in town." He looks sad. "Or did, anyway. Heribert put two shots into it, right below the breastbone, and it turned and flamed him right down to the ground."

"That's supposed to be where you hit them, innit? Has it been seen since?"
